Jiroft, Arat Civilization

Because of its location and being situated between ancient cultures and civilizations throughout history Jiroft has had a special place in history. This region has historically been the link between Mesopotamia and Elamite civilization in the west and Sindh civilization in the east.  In the bank of Halil Roud River this civilization go back to the third millennium BC and being called as the paradise of archaeologists. Ziggurats and monuments coinciding with Sumerian civilizations in Mesopotamia have been obtained in this area. However, according to archeologists, Arat civilization in Jiroft was independent and was not influenced by Sumerians.  Discovering the first hieroglyphic inscription in archaeological excavations at Jiroft changes the date of handwriting invention. Arat Cultural Area was one of the largest commercial industrial centers of the East in the third millennium BC, exporting goods made of soapstone, marble and bronze to other civilization centers. In this area there are two big hills along the road from Jiroft to Kahnuj, which are Konar Sandal A and Konar Sandal B, where most of the excavations have been done on them.

The most important attractions of Jiroft are: Konar Sandal archeological Site (Hill A and B), Archeological Museum of Jiroft.
